Profile

Örebro University is one of the most expansive universities in Sweden with its well over 14,500 students and 1,300 staff members. We can offer more than 80 study programmes and 800 single subject courses, covering some 50 different subject areas. Great effort is channeled into constantly renewing our programmes and creating educations that modern people want. Recent additions are found in areas such as recreation, design, health and psychology. Nowadays, Örebro University is located in several places all over our region, such as nearby Grythyttan, Kopparberg and Karlskoga. This is also proof of our commitment towards regional development on the whole, and of our desire to recruit new groups. Within a few years, we expect that we shall be offering medical training in collaboration with the University hospital in Örebro, too.

As to research, five profiles have been formulated. These all have a firm foundation in their respective subject areas, but with a multidisciplinary focus. Our twelve departments foster a number of research graduate schools; these have international guest research programmes and multidisciplinary research groups with several top-notch specialties already in the making. Some of these are automation & robotics, democracy, environmental research and disability studies.

"There should always be a portable contractor's crane working on our campus" - this is the motto of our Vice-Chancellor concerning our campus area. Also, our campus should be fashioned to stimulate "meetings between people". In about a year, when the School of Music moves to its new building, our campus will be embodied by a new rhythm. This will be another welcome contribution to our abundant cultural life that is already emanating from our ambitious university library, enriching both students and staff. In addition, plans are afoot to erect another building for the Department of Science.
